Jon Carrington wins Ashby B-Level GC

Sat 12th August, Moira Manager: Martin

Two late dropouts left us with a field of 10, divided into two blocks of 5, with each player playing all the players from the other block, giving the benefit of no sit-outs.

The Block A winner was Colin Spencer (Downham) on 4 wins out of 5, with runner-up Jon Carrington (Broadwas) on 3 wins, +7 hoop difference, finishing just ahead of Edwin Bone (Eynsham, 3 wins, +4).

Andy Sherwood (Ashby) was the runaway winner of Block B on 5 wins out of 5. Next came three players on 2 wins: David Brammer (Branston, +3) qualifying for the semi-final ahead of Richard Sanville (Ashby, hoop diff 0) and defending champion Simon Draper (Norwich, hoop diff -3).

In the semi-finals, Jon won 7-4 against Colin, and Andy won 7-3 against David.

Jon saved his best shots for the final, with an impressive 7-2 win against in-form Andy, overturning the result of their game at the block stage (7-6 to Andy).

Edwin won one of Martin’s mystery prizes for a consolation game win against Simon. Edwin also won the prize for the most games going to the 13th hoop (4 out of 5 at the block stage).

Winner: Jon Carrington (Broadwas)
Runner-up: Andy Sherwood (Ashby)
