Heather wins the Max Morris GC competition

Sun 6th August, Moira Manager/reporter: Ray

With eleven club members entering the competition, the manager Ray introduced a “phantom” twelfth player (himself, Martin and Chris each playing one or two rounds – but not being eligible to win the trophy!).

With just one short, sharp shower the weather remained good, play kept to schedule and the competition finished by around 5pm.

Handicaps ranged from -1 to 11  The manager chose to use the extra-shots (bisque) handicap  system.

Players were randomly arranged into two blocks of six … with “all play all” within the blocks. The 13 point games had a 50 minute time allowance, followed by 8 further shots. Drawn games counted as 0.49 of a win. The Black block consisting of Heather, Andy, Ormond, Avril, Judith and Pete was won by Heather on 4.49 wins with Andy (3.49 wins) and Ormond  (3 wins) close behind.  Red block, Colin, Julie, Rosie, Arthur, John and the “phantom” player was won by Arthur on 4 wins followed by Colin and John with 3 wins each.  Across both blocks every eligible player won at least one game and there was only one game timed out.

The final was won by Heather (handicap 5), beating Arthur (handicap -1)  …  7 – 3

Congratulations to Heather, winner of the Max Morris Trophy.
