July 22nd & 23rd, Moira Managers: Martin and Lesley
After a late withdrawal we had nine players competing in an all-play-all block, with one player sitting out each time. Most of the block games were completed on the Saturday in less than perfect conditions – persistent rain for much of the day.
Thankfully the weather improved on the Sunday, and we even had a few spectators! In the first semi-final home player Andy Sherwood won a tight battle in three games 7-6, 5-7, 7-5 against Tony McCann (Durham), and the other semi-final was equally close with Christine Wood (Tyneside) winning 7-6, 7-6 against Cheltenham’s Ray Bassett.
Andy then played some excellent shots in the final to win convincingly 7-1, 7-4 against Christine.
Ray B beat Tony 7-5 in the third-place play-off, and Edwin Bone (Eynsham) won the Plate competition.
