We held two social events during the weeks the lawns were closed: a Winter Walk at the start of March, and a pre-season Quiz.
We had a reasonable turnout of ten people for the walk, once everyone had eventually found the meeting place. The six-mile route took us from the centre of Melbourne, past the end of Swarkestone Bridge into Stanton-by-Bridge, followed by a café stop at Staunton Harold Reservoir. Everyone seemed to enjoy the walk, and even the Melbourne contingent discovered new paths that they were not previously aware of.
Mick ran a very well-attended quiz with no fewer than 9 teams – 36 people in total – and questions ranging from 1960s musicals to countries with ‘Z’ in their name. The top three teams were the Hobgoblins (111) followed by Formica Tops (98) and Croquet Potatoes (97). Many thanks to everyone who took part and for the donations of prizes.
