Paul and Jane win the National Forest GC Doubles

Aug 27th & 28th, Moira Manager/reporter: Ray

The 2022 National Forest GC “Total Zero Plus” Doubles was fully subscribed, in spite of a lead-up involving several team changes. The eight pairs were allocated into two blocks of four. Each team played others in their block over two games, without time limits. The blocks were completed on the Saturday, with no two pairs on an equal number of games – so no need for play-offs.

The “best of three” semi-finals saw Paul Durkin/Jane Tewson beating Arthur Rowe/Judith Rowe, and Jane Pringle/Jane Bailey beating Mike O’Brian/Christine Mounfield. In the final the two Janes took a 4-0 lead over Paul and Jane, but lost their momentum and Paul/Jane went on to finish the game 7-4. Paul and Jane then won the next game to secure the trophy.

The Plate was contested by the remaining four pairs, each involving matches against teams not already played. Mike Bilton and Pauline Donner were victorious in both of their Sunday matches and each took home a small Moira stoneware memento.
