The club is delighted to have been awarded a grant of £4900 from the Mercia Park Community Fund towards our project for converting the disused Welfare bowling green into croquet lawns. The grant is part of a fund awarded to local organisations which are helping to strengthen local communities, particularly quality of life and well-being, croquet being a particularly good example of this.
Converting the Moira Miners Welfare bowls green to small croquet courts will allow continued play for croquet club members over the winter, easing the pressure on our main lawns, and will provide additional future capacity for croquet taster sessions and community groups.
The grant is specifically being used for the purchase of lawn materials – 5 tonnes of top-dressing has already been applied, thanks to the help of hard-working volunteers in the club – plus additional maintenance equipment and more sets of croquet balls and hoops.
