We ran GC and AC internal leagues this year, with the GC split into a low handicap and a high handicap block, with varying degrees of success. To encourage play, it was 3 points for a win and one point for a loss. There were 7 players in each of the 3 blocks.
By far the best supported block was the GC high handicap one, where all the games were completed. The results were very close, with 4 players each with 4 wins out of 6 and hence 14 points. Martin Wroughton emerged as the winner with a hoop difference of +12, Judith Rowe second with +9, and Lesley Leitch & Heather Hardy with +7 and +2 respectively.
In the GC low handicap block, only 3 players completed half or more of their games, with Keith Pound and Paul Durkin being most successful with 2 wins out of 3. Keith ended up with a hoop difference of +4 compared to Paul’s +3.
The Buxton Vase this year is awarded to the player accumulating the most points from either block – and so Martin is the overall winner with Judith runner-up. The low handicap players need to play more games to stand a chance of winning!
The Farrant Salver (14pt AC handicap) featured one determined player who played all 6 of his games, winning half of them and gaining 12 points – well done Adam Wheatley. Keith Pound was runner-up with 6 points from 2 wins in 2 games.
These trophies will be presented at the AGM, along with all the other trophies that people have won – so if you have anything, please remember to bring it along.
