The 2021 Bottle Challenge was held in wet but playable conditions on Saturday the 2nd October. The usual format of eight players/places, all play all but with “Ashby Select” taking the place of the guest player who was unable to play due to injury. The usual suspects were playing along with the welcome addition of Keith who won five games out of seven, only losing to the two top seeds Rachel and Will.
Going into the final round saw Tim and Rachel both on five wins playing Paul and Mike respectively. Tim had beaten Rachel in an earlier round but with tied tournaments being decided on hoop difference Rachel only needed to win her final game to win overall, such was her already commanding lead in hoop difference. The result of the key games in the final round was 7-6 to Tim and 7-6 to Rachel, leaving Rachel the tournament winner. Rachel’s final hoop difference was +24, with Tim on +9.
This result leaves Rachel and Will both on five Bottle Challenge wins each, paving the way for an interesting tournament next year.
The full list of players was Rachel, Will, Tim, Keith, Arthur, Paul and Mick with “Ashby Select” comprising of Jane, Chris, Ray and Mike who all played at least one game.
