This year the CA has launched a new series of GC ‘A-Level’ tournaments for players in the handicap range 0+, including our tournament at Moira which attracted a field of eight players from locations ranging from the Thames Valley to Tyneside.
The preliminary round consisted of two blocks of four players; each match being the best of 3 games. The block winners were Ray Mounfield (Ashby) and Tony McCann (Durham), and runners-up were Paul Gunn (Wingrave) and Mike Bilton (Gainsborough).
Both semi-finals were very close, with Mike winning 5-7, 7-1, 7-6 against Ray, and Paul edging out Tony 4-7, 7-3, 7-6.
In the final, Paul Gunn beat Mike Bilton 7-2, 7-3. Chris Jackson (Long Eaton) won the Plate competition with a clean sweep of wins.
