We are sorry to report that Barrie March died on March 29th at the age of 91. Barrie was a true stalwart of Ashby Croquet Club, joining at one of our beginners’ courses in 1995, and he quickly became involved in the running of the club, eventually serving as Chairman for three years from 1997. During this time, Barrie was instrumental in the club’s relocation process from Hood Park to Moira, negotiating with the Miners’ Welfare, dealing with grounds contractors and suppliers, and securing substantial grants.
Barrie continued to be active with the club for a number of years, and then in 2014 he moved to a retirement village in Oxfordshire to be closer to his family. His attempts to set up a croquet group on the lawn there unfortunately didn’t quite work out as none of the other residents seemed interested in croquet.
Barrie was made an Honorary Life Member of the club in 2015 in recognition of his dedication and hard work, and his legacy lives on as the club continues to thrive. Our condolences to Barrie’s family.
