Mick wins the inaugural Derek Buxton Trophy

Played on Sat 7th July. Manager/Reporter: Arthur

Four players contested the inaugural Derek Buxton Trophy on another roasting hot day. This is our internal 18-point level-play advanced AC competition, previously known as the Shakespeare Cup. We started early so as to finish before England’s World Cup quarter-final game against Sweden. All the games were completed within the two-hour time limit, averaging 1.5 hours in spite of the difficult conditions, and everyone won at least one game. Mick emerged the winner after playing very well in his last game to comprehensively beat Arthur. Derek also won his last game against Richard, and fittingly presented the eponymous trophy to Mick.

Results: Arthur 18–2 Derek (duration 70 min); Mick 10–18 Richard (100 min); Mick 18–5 Derek (80 min); Arthur 18–3 Richard (100 min); Arthur 3–18 Mick (60 min); Richard 10–18 Derek (115 min).

Winner: Mick Haytack.  Runner-up: Arthur Rowe
