Sat 26th May, Moira. Report by Ray
The 2018 Bass Shield and Coors Cup event was well supported with six East Midlands Federation teams represented. Neither Sheffield U3A nor Branston U3A had entered previously. The teams were divided into two blocks. In Block A, Sheffield U3A won all 12 of their games and in Block B Long Eaton had 9 wins and a draw. In the afternoon the two block winners each won 3 of their games with all six players adding another win to their tally. So with 5 players (all except Joan) on 5 wins, a shoot-out was needed to decide both the individual and team events. Players were given 3 balls to shoot from the boundary to hoop 5. Peter Reed and Joan Skuse ran the hoop with two balls and David Bills scored one. So Sheffield U3A secured the Bass Shield and the Coors Cup went to Peter Reed. A clean sweep for the Sheffield team.
Bass Shield: 1st Sheffield U3A; 2nd Long Eaton
The play-offs between the other teams resulted in the following placings:
Ashby 3rd, Leicester 4th, Branston U3A 5th, and Darley Dale 6th.
Coors Cup winner: Peter Reed (Sheffield U3A)
It is pleasing to report that all players won at least one game and everyone enjoyed the event.
